چکیده

PURPOSE The aim of the present study was to assess the influence of pre-treatments of zirconia by sandblasting and/or heat treatment on the flexural strength of zirconia and debonding/crack-initiation strength of porcelain-veneered zirconia ceramic. MATERIALS AND METHODS Zirconia ceramic specimens were divided into four groups according to treatment (grinding as controls, sandblasting, heat treatment at 1000°C for 10 min, and heat treatment after sandblasting). The porcelain- veneered zirconia specimens were also prepared. The zirconia specimens were subjected to three-point bending tests, and flexural strength was calculated. The debonding/crack-initiation strength of porcelain-veneered zirconia ceramic was measured according to ISO 9693. X-ray diffractometry (XRD) was used to estimate the relative amount of monoclinic phase. RESULTS There was no significant difference in flexural strength between the four treatments (p > 0.05). The highest amount of monoclinic phase was found after sandblasting. No monoclinic phase was obtained from heat treatment and heat treatment after sandblasting groups, and these two groups showed significantly higher debonding/crack-initiation strength than other two groups (p < 0.05). All specimens failed within the veneering porcelain. No elements of veneering porcelain were detected on the zirconia side at the interface using EPMA (electron probe microanalyzer). CONCLUSION The present study suggests that the pre-treatment of zirconia with heat treatment after sandblasting prior to firing porcelain does not affect the debonding/crack-initiation strength of porcelain-veneered zirconia ceramic.

Effects of porcelain thickness on the flexural strength and crack propagation in a bilayered zirconia system

OBJECTIVE This study evaluated the influence of porcelain (VM9, VITA Zahnfabrik, Germany) thickness on the flexural strength and crack propagation in bilayered zirconia systems (YZ, VITA Zahnfabrik, Germany). MATERIAL AND METHODS Thirty zirconia bars (20.0x4.0x1.0 mm) and six zirconia blocks (12.0x7.5x1.2 mm) were prepared and veneered with porcelain with different thickness: 1 mm, 2 mm, or 3...

Shear bond strength of veneering porcelain to porous zirconia.

In this study, two types of porous zirconia and dense zirconia were used. The flexural strength of non-layered zirconia specimens and those of the layered zirconia specimens with veneering porcelain were examined. Furthermore, the shear bond strength of veneering porcelain to zirconia was examined. The flexural strength of the non-layered specimens was 1,220 MPa for dense zirconia and 220 to 30...

Effect of Veneering Dental Zirconia on Bond Strength. A pilot study

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of veneering zirconia surfaces with feldspar-based ceramics or glass ceramics on bond strength when using a resin composite cement. Forty-eight ytteria tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZP) specimens were randomly divided into four groups. Six pairs were created in each group by bonding two of the specimens to each other after having the b...

Effect of Thermal and Mechanical Aging on Flexural Strength of Zirkonzahn and Mamut Zirconia Ceramics

Objective: Despite the high strength of zirconia restorations, aging in the oral environment and masticatory loading may result in transformation of tetragonal to monoclinic phase and decrease their strength. Statements in this regard are controversial. This study sought to compare the flexural strength (FS) of Zirkonzahn (ZirkonZahn, Cercon, Ceramill) and Mamut (Dubai Medical Equipment LLC, ...
